It is our philosophy that students should encounter a variety of musical experiences from all ends: as soloists, ensemble performers, audience members, and even composers. From Friday Kabbalat Shabbat performances to our annual concerts and Arts Chai-lights celebration, student musicians have a myriad of opportunities to perform and be celebrated at CESJDS.
Music classes are offered for students of all levels and experience. In these classes, students prepare for upcoming performances, study music theory and literacy, and learn what it means to be a musical artist. Intro level classes for both keyboard and guitar are offered for students wanting to get their feet wet, whereas more experienced students can join the Music Instrumental Ensemble classes and play a variety of different genres and styles. Similarly, our Middle School and High School Choirs cover a wide scope of jewish, secular, and multicultural music, all while providing students with the necessary musicianship skills to enhance their performance experience.
Outside of the school day, student instrumentalists can accompany school musicals in pit band, and vocalists can audition for our award winning A Cappella Choir, Shir Madness. Music ensembles perform out in the community at a variety of different venues including local synagogues, national competitions, the Israeli Embassy, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the Nationals Stadium.
