The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School seeks qualified candidates to fill the position of Lower School Physical Education Teacher for the 2018-2019 academic year. Our PE specialists teach classes on grade levels Junior Kindergarten through 5th grade based on developing athletic skills, the practice of sportsmanship, and learning about a healthy approach to living. This is a full-time position beginning August 16, 2018.

Teaching and other responsibilities will include:

●Collaborate with PE teaching partner to develop and maintain a comprehensive PE curriculum

●Teach twice weekly PE classes on grade levels Junior K-5

●Cultivate athletic skills in a variety of sports

●Develop practices of positive teamwork and sportsmanship in students

●Instruct students in healthy lifestyle practices that will inform their choices as they mature

●Collaborate with PE teaching partner to organize and run Lower School Field Day

●Take a leadership role in setting standards and expectations for supervision of recess sports activities on the sports fields

●Maintain communication with parents through in-person and other technological platforms

●Lunch and recess duties as assigned

●Work with the after-school enrichment program to support club options in the area of athletics

The ideal candidate is a dynamic individual who connects well with students in grades Pre-K to 5 and has excelled in teaching in a gymnasium environment using positive behavior and classroom management strategies. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Health/Physical Education or a related field and successful formal teaching experience A degree or MSDE certification in Early Childhood education and the ability to coach one or more competitive sports at the varsity and middle school levels preferred.
