The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School seeks qualified candidates to fill a long-term (14-week) Language Arts Enrichment Specialist position beginning in mid-March 2018. This unique position involves working with students in K-5th grade and collaborating with their General Studies teachers to enrich the Language Arts curriculum.

The position entails:

●Providing push-in support in Kindergarten-5th grade classes to enrich the Language Arts curriculum

●Coaching individual and small groups of students to raise the level of discussion and work in the classrooms

●Delivering individualized instruction to boost students' reading, writing and analytical skills

●Facilitating student book club meetings in intermediate elementary grades

●Facilitating small group guided reading instruction in primary grades

●Providing feedback to students to help improve performance

●Collaborating with General Studies teachers to develop enrichment strategies and content to complement the curriculum

●Assisting with school-wide literacy assessments (F&P Running Records and DIBELS for primary grades)

Candidates will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfort with integrating technology into teaching practice, interest in collaborating with colleagues within and across subject disciplines, commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment, and a passion for working with children. Our reading and writing curricula are based in the practice of Reader's and Writer's Workshop. Candidates with experience in these methodologies are highly desirable.

Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field required, with a Master's degree preferred and a minimum of three to five years' of successful, formal teaching experience in a public or independent school.
