Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School

Dear CESJDS Community,

We want to share with you our plans for continuing student learning now that the School will be closed from Monday, March 16th - Friday, March 27th.  Our goals during this closure are to:

  1. Secure the health of our community and the larger geographic area in which we all live,
  2. Provide continuity of learning for our students, and
  3. Provide support, as best as we can, for students, families, and faculty and staff.

We have asked our students, and will remind them tomorrow, to take home the following:

  • Grades 5-8: school-issued laptops and chargers;
  • High school: all devices and materials needed to complete work at home;
  • Textbooks, including novels or other reading texts that they will need during the closure;
  • Tallit and tefillin

Parents - If your child has medication in the Nurse's Office, please email your campus nurse to arrange a time to pick it up, children are not permitted to take medication home on their own.

Each link below will take you to that division's plan for academic continuity. The first two days of the closure will be non-instructional days to allow families (and staff) to prepare for the change in routine and deal with any personal/family-specific situations. Beginning on Wednesday, March 18th, each division will follow the plan linked below:

  • Lower School
  • Middle School
  • High School

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. In addition to the email addresses for questions listed in each division plan above, feel free to reach out with questions to Ginger Thornton, Director of Instructional Technology at gthornton@cesjds.org.

B'vriut, wishing you all good health,

Rabbi Mitchel Malkus
Head of School
