Heather got her first job in sports during her senior year at CESJDS when she worked in the sponsorship department of the Verizon Center, the home of the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals. She then attended Vanderbilt University and decided to use the legal profession as a platform for breaking into the sports business. Upon graduation, Heather began law school and received a clerkship at the National Football League focusing on labor relations between players and teams. She subsequently headed west to complete her law degree at UCLA School of Law where she met her now husband, Teddy Karatz, and accepted an associate position in the Labor & Employment group of a large law firm, Hunton & Williams LLP.
Heather is appreciative of our School noting, "In a school where academics are the top priority, the CESJDS staff, faculty, and coaches went out of their way to find me unique opportunities in sports." She excelled in soccer, basketball, track, and softball.
Heather now lives in New York City, with her husband Teddy, where she is a lawyer at the National Hockey League and founder/editor-in-chief of her blog, Sportsgirl. Sportsgirl is designed to attract women to sports by relating sports headlines to current topics in entertainment, fashion, gossip, and politics. It is the perfect place to find a fun sports tidbit to use in a business meeting, with kids or even on a date.
Heather is appreciative of her time at CESJDS where the faculty and staff assisted her in pursuing her unique love of sports. Please sign up for her newsletter at ilovesportsgirl.com, "like" her page on Facebook, and follow her on twitter @HBSportsgirl.
