Naval Carderock Facility Field Trip

Naval Carderock Facility Field Trip

Each year, our 4th graders visit the Navy's Carderock facility with CESJDS alumni, parent, and aerospace engineer Eric Silberg '95. The students tour the facility, stand in test wind tunnels, shops, and other spaces where the Navy builds models and tests the next generation of ships and submarines, including a test pool so long it has to account for the curvature of the earth! With the mentorship of naval aerospace engineers, the 4th graders made, tested, and flew seaplanes, focusing on structure and function. This experience of getting to know STEM professionals, building together, and learning about how this science, technology, engineering, and math play an important role in the real world is a highlight of our 4th grade year.
