The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School is seeking an enthusiastic Instrumental Music educator for the middle and high school levels for the 2019-2020 academic year.
- Leading a middle school band and high school instrumental ensembles, instructing them in a variety of repertoire
- Teaching sectional rehearsals for middle school students
- Teaching other music courses as needed, such as general music studies, intro to piano, and/or intro to guitar
- Preparing student musicians for pit orchestra, assembly performances, and evening concerts on campus and - on rare occasions - elsewhere in the community
The ideal candidate holds a BA in Music or Music Education, MA or MFA preferred, and has two or more years of highly successful teaching experience. We are interested in creative, passionate individuals who have strong classroom management skills, and who can work with a range instruments as well as student musicians of different skill levels.
Knowledge of sound equipment is desired, as is the ability to accompany students on the piano, but not required. Ability to arrange music to fit a diverse range of instruments is important. Familiarity with Jewish music is not required, but certainly a plus.
