The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates to fill the position of Middle School Humanities and English Teacher for the 2019-2020 academic year.

The ideal candidate is a warm, creative, charismatic, engaging humanities educator who enjoys working with early adolescents while promoting critical thinking, close reading and analysis, writing and executive functioning skills. The ideal candidate's classroom is one that features a strong emphasis on student-centered learning. Successful candidates will have experience with project based learning and experiential education, have demonstrated success at and enjoy working as an active member of a team, have strong interpersonal skills, a strong record of positive behavior management, and are comfortable with and skilled at working with a range of learners.

Responsibilities include:

●Teaching 6th grade humanities, an interdisciplinary English language arts and social studies curriculum;

●Teaching 7th or 8th grade English;

●Teaching a weekly advisory or other experiential education courses;

●Participating in team meetings to discuss student progress.

Qualifications include a minimum of a BA in English, English education or a related field. An MA degree is preferred. Candidates should have at least three years of successful teaching experience in collaborative working environments. They should also have demonstrated classroom management skills and should feel comfortable working with a range of learners. Experience in differentiated instruction, project based learning, Collaborative Problem Solving, and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.
