The Communications & Special Events Associate is responsible for coordination of the school's electronic communications, online presence, digital assets, and management of the department's project flow and production. The Associate will also support the Development department in the coordination, promotion, and execution of special events. The Marketing & Communications, Development and Admissions teams make up the Institutional Advancement division at CESJDS, and this unique interdepartmental role will further strengthen division ties and help move the school forward.

This full-time position will report to the Director of Marketing & Communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage content and functionality of the CESJDS website and InsideCESJDS Portal including galleries, landing pages, news items, lunch menu, forms, and calendars; and inbound edit requests; ensure that content remains current and fresh
  • Curate content and special features for the website—A Day in the Life, digital storytelling, parent/student/faculty video and written testimonials, and more
  • Oversee and coordinate email marketing program, including managing the schedule and liaising with content creators across the school; produce and distribute weekly parent email
  • Capture JDS programs, happenings, and moments on video, and produce high-quality highlight reels, testimonials and other video assets for distribution to parents and the greater community via email, social media, and other channels; stay abreast of latest video technologies and trends
  • Take photos at school events and in-classroom happenings, manage archive, and add photos to the SmugMug media gallery; solicit photos from parent photographers
  • Lead emergency communications (i.e. school closing/delays) in conjunction with Head of School and Director of Operations and Security by sending email and SMS messages, and posting to website
  • Serve as point person for community news, including 'In the Family' alerts for condolence, engagement, and birth messages
  • Direct the school's live streaming program, including selection of events, determining appropriate channels (i.e. Facebook Live vs. YouTube), set-up, execution, and follow-up
  • Assist with development of social media strategy, content and campaign creation, and execution
  • Research and recommend appropriate ad buys for student recruitment, school promotion, and special events in local, regional and (relevant) national print and online publications
  • Produce digital analytics reports and provide recommendations
  • Serve as the Marketing & Communications liaison to the Parent Association to ensure promotion of important parent and school community events
  • Submit projects to and communicate with external vendors (i.e. print shops) to ensure timely production and delivery
  • Manage and oversee the marketing and communications calendar to ensure smooth operations and timeliness
  • Support the overall objectives of the Marketing & Communications Office

Special Events:

  • Assist with logistics (room reservations, set-up, Banquet Event Orders) for Dor L'Dor Intergenerational Event and other in-school and off-site events, as needed
  • Develop and implement integrated marketing plans for each event
  • Liaise with graphic designer to produce marketing and on-site materials
  • Maintain RSVP lists and produce nametags for events
  • Post to CESJDS internal calendar and community calendar


  • Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience in marketing, communications, and/or public relations; non-profit and/or school experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office and/or G Suite required
  • Experience with website content management system applications and broadcast email applications required; Finalsite a plus
  • Photography and/or video expertise preferred
  • Adobe Photoshop and FinalCut pro (or other video editing software) experience preferred
  • Experience in search engine optimization techniques a plus
  • Experience in creating and posting social media content; familiarity in social media best practices
  • Event coordination/management experience preferred
