Leaders of High School Diversity Club Attend Baltimore Student Diversity Leadership Conference

Last weekend, faculty member Heidi Zansler, along with Emma Nitkin and Addie Bassin, attended the Baltimore Student Diversity Leadership Conference (BSDL) sponsored by AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland Schools). Emma and Addie are sophomores who are heading the new Diversity Club in High School. The event was challenging and exciting for Ms. Zansler and the girls who came back from the convention with many ideas to implement in the Upper School. Dr. Joshua Bennett, the keynote speaker, energized the audience when he recited his poetry about growing up as an African American student in an all-white high school. Emma and Addie had the opportunity to speak with this poet, scholar, and activist and are trying to bring him to CESJDS to address our student body. The girls attended breakout sessions and are working diligently on developing a program that will bring greater awareness about diversity to the CESJDS campus!
