I often tell the story that I took a job teaching English at CESJDS planning to return to college teaching as soon as possible - and then discovered what it means to find a home. Both in the English classroom and now in my role in Instructional Technology, I love that moment - for a student or for a teacher - when the lights flash on, when a learner discovers something they didn't know or know how to do before. I have degrees in English and History that include undergraduate and graduate work at Baylor University, Sul Ross State University, and the University of Virginia. I taught at Baylor, UVA, and Texas A&M from 1989-2003 and was Managing Editor of the literary journal Callaloo from the early 1990s to 2003. Originally from Texas, I now live with my wife and 3 dogs in Takoma Park, MD.
Quote: Even when I was a high school and college athlete and later when I was the managing editor of a literary magazine for many years, I was also an unmitigated geek. So my favorite quote is, "Do or do not. There is no try." - Yoda
