M.S. Teaching, Pace University
Catherine joined the CESJDS community in July of 2016. She came to us from the Sidwell Friends School where she spent the 2015-2016 academic year as an interim Middle School English teacher. Prior to relocating to the Washington area, Catherine taught for many years at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, NY, where she served in various capacities, including Middle School Dean, Advisory Coordinator and Language Arts teacher. Catherine began her teaching career in New York City public schools through the New York City Teaching Fellows program and earned a M.S. in Teaching. Aligned with the CESJDS core values of K’hilah/Community and Torah Lishmah/Learning for Its Own Sake, Catherine believes in the importance of creating trusting classroom cultures where there is a palpable excitement around stories. In addition, she feels strongly that reading is a critical avenue to teach empathy.
