Meet the Athletic Director
Michael J. Riley
Director of Athletics and Summer Programs
During his two years at CESJDS, Mike has started new athletic programs, including wrestling and indoor track and helped in the planning of a new strength and conditioning center on campus. During his tenure, the teams have achieved success as well, winning nine Potomac Valley Athletic Conference titles.
Prior to CESJDS, Mike was the Director of Athletics at Clarksburg High School for four years, the Director of Athletics at Poolesville High School for 12 years and the Acting Director of Athletics at Richard Montgomery High School for two years. During his career, Mike has also served as a head football coach, head basketball coach and head track and field coach. In 1999, he was named the Maryland District II Athletic Director of the Year and was presented a community service award by the town of Poolesville in 2006. During his tenure as a Director of Athletics in the Montgomery County Public Schools System, he was selected to launch Clarksburg High School’s athletics program, hiring all of the coaches and athletic support staff. The athletic programs under Mike’s guidance have been very successful, both on and off the field. Over the last 14 years, the academic Grade Point Average of all the teams he has been responsible for has been over 3.0 each season. Under his leadership, nine coaches have been honored as Coach of Year, 10 teams won State Championships, 38 teams won Regional Championships and 72 teams won County or District championships. Mike graduated from The Citadel with a B.S. in Education.
