The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School seeks qualified candidates to fill the position of Lower School 2nd Grade General Studies Co-Teacher for the remainder of the 2016-2017 academic year. This position will require co-teaching in language arts and social studies. Co-teachers in our school collaboratively plan lessons with lead teachers, provide small group instruction following mini-lessons (most often taught by the lead teacher, but not exclusively), and support individual students where needed. This is a part-time position, with work on alternating mornings and afternoons every school day and with ample opportunity for additional hours as a substitute teacher to supplement the co-teaching work.
Candidates will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfort with integrating technology into teaching practice, interest in collaborating with colleagues within and across subject disciplines, commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment, and a passion for working with children. Our reading and writing curricula are based in the practice of Reader's and Writer's Workshop. Candidates with experience in these methodologies are highly desirable.
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field required, with a Master's degree preferred and a minimum of one to three years' of successful, formal teaching experience in a public or independent school.
